Mark ChapmanMark rose to prominence in the early 2002 with 'A's release of their third studio album, 'Hi-Fi Serious'. Not only was the album chock full of huge guitar rhythm work, but also Mark's trademark fluid and dynamic lead work. It seemed that the guitar magazine industry could get enough of him, and it was often hinted that Mark was the UK's version of Edward Van Halen.
I first met Mark backstage at an 'A' gig in Norwich. I went with a mutual friend and wanted to meet Mark and show him a guitar. Being left handed, his choice of instrument was always very limited. We exchanged numbers, and after the Hi-Fi serious tour we got together and talked guitars. His first Guyton guitar was completed fairly quickly, and was used exclusively on 'A's fourth album 'Teen Dance Ordinance'. This was quickly followed by a second very similar guitar, but fitted with a tremolo. To date, Mark owns five Guyton guitars, his latest being a Miura in 'Edward' brown. He continues to dazzle with his amazing guitar work, seemingly being able to turn his hand to anything! Over the intervening years, we have not only built a very good professional relationship, but have become great friends too. "It's hard for me to talk about Andy's skills as a guitar luthier because we're such close friends...having said that, he's been so supportive of me for over 20 years and has built me some of the most amazing guitars I've ever played! He's a bloody genius!"
